How the P&L is worked out
The gross P&L of a trade is simple: (sell price − buy price) × quantity. Buy at 100, sell at 120, with 10 units, the gross profit is (120 − 100) × 10 = 200. Add up the fees on the buy and the sell and subtract them, and you get the real net P&L you pocket.
The return (percentage) shows how much you made relative to the buy cost: (sell price − buy price) ÷ buy price × 100%. The example above is (120 − 100) ÷ 100 = 20%. Note that the return uses the price spread and is not directly tied to fees; fees affect the net amount, and in small high-frequency trades they quietly eat into a slice of the profit.
